Spending in "Dry January"
|
Everything about the holiday season is designed for consumers to SPEND, SPEND, SPEND; all while fueling the economy with nothing but spending!
Thus, a trend emerged, “dry January”, with the goal of being alcohol free AND also stretched to cut excess spending for the month. Allowing some level of recovery from the holiday spending spree last year.
Holiday spending topped $881.6 billion during the 2021 holiday season according to the National Retail Federation (NRF). Holiday spending topped $929.5 billion for the 2022 holiday season. Not bad, except NRF says 2023 holiday sales grew 3.8% to a record $964.4 Billion.
Although, spending goes into overdrive with shopping during end of year holiday season, we must not ‘punish’ ourselves during “Dry January.”
Essentially, it becomes a crash and burn behavior. There's this exciting spending spree during the holiday season and now it's "January" so, let's STOP spending.

January is an awesome time of renewal and sets the tone for the year ahead with goals and aspirations.
Instead, “Dry January” yields to waddling in regret. There’s no time for regret in your life, not to mention in January. Own your holiday spending as intended i.e. to put a feel-good spirit in your heart and priceless smiles on the faces of friends and family.
So, leave “Dry January” in the history books with NO REGRET.
